About the project
The research project has developed and tested an online tool ment to support parents of children and youngsters diagnosed with cancer. The project will evaluate how parents and children utilize the online tool, and to assess whether they find it helpful or not.
In this tool parents will be given access to different modules with relevant information, authorized links, a discussion forum with other parents in the same situation, as well as a chat function where they can pose individual questions to specially trained nurses. Integrated in the tool they can also find an individual module (Sisom) designed for the child to use. Here the child can talk about his or her problems and perceived strengths by going on a digital adventure tour.
Such online based tools can provide a unique opportunity to assist parents of children suffering from cancer and the children themselves in their own home, regardless of time or place.
The Connect Parents tool has been developed by the use of so-called participatory design, meaning that representatives of the target group actively participate in both the design and the content of the online tool.
